The New York Press Club hails the U.S. diplomatic corps, our colleagues at the Wall Street Journal and the entire journalism community, and everyone who worked to secure the release of journalists Evan Gershkovich and Alsu Kurmasheva from prison in Russia. Thanks to their efforts, including the prisoners’ families and world leaders, their plight remained front and center, ultimately leading to freedom for those released yesterday. Freedom of the Press must always be supported, both at home and abroad.
