NBC News is Winner of “Gold Keyboard” Award in the 2026 New York Press Club Journalism Awards Competition
Truth to Power Award to Bill Owens, former “60 Minutes” Executive Producer Who Resigned in Protest of Journalistic Interference

The NBC News staff has won the prestigious Gold Keyboard Award from the New York Press Club in the 2026 Journalism Awards Competition for its story, “The Children’s Pastor,” on a group of women who allege they were sexually abused by their former pastor as children. The story and the women led to the arrest of the pastor. He’s awaiting charges.

The club’s signature glass statue will be presented at the Annual Awards and Installation Dinner on Monday, June 1, 7 pm (presentations begin at 8 pm) aboard the Cornucopia Majesty: Pier 81 (41st Street and 12th Avenue), which will remain docked for the evening. The dinner’s MC will be Press Club Board Member Beth Karas, Legal Analyst and Host of ID’s “Curious Case Of… “, streaming on HBO Max.

The Press Club’s annual Gabe Pressman Truth to Power Award will be presented to former CBS News “60 Minutes” Executive Producer Bill Owens who resigned from the company after 37 years citing undue influence on his journalistic independence brought on by reported interference from the Trump Administration. Owens will speak at the dinner.

Also winning top awards are the Nellie Bly Cub Award to Susanti Sarkar of The Imprint for “New York Child Welfare Reporting by The Imprint.” The Rev. Mychal Judge Heart of New York Award will be presented in three categories to: Hannah Kliger of CBS New York for “Charlie’s Ripples of Kindness” (TV); Alex Vadukul of The New York Times for “The Last Lucille Roberts” (Newspaper), and Hunter Walker of Talking Points Memo for “Life Inside the Undocumented Underground” (Online).

All the winners in more than 30 categories were selected from almost 600 entries submitted by TV, radio, newspapers, websites, magazines, and newswires in New York City and around the U.S. (See below for full list.) Tickets, priced at $200 for members and $225 for non-members can be purchased here.

New York Press Club President David Cruz of Newsday applauded all the award recipients, saying, “Journalists continue to be faced with challenges as they do crucial work during a time when the First Amendment is challenged and the market shrinks. We are honored to present these awards to these journalists who perservere despite the hurdles.”
