Statement on impending shuttering of CBS Radio

The New York Press Club released a statement on the announcement that CBS News Radio will cease operations this year:

The announcement by CBS that it is shuttering the CBS Radio division, heard on 700 affiliated stations nationwide, marks a sad ending to a 100-year legacy of radio news that produced such trusted voices as Edward R. Murrow, Eric Sevareid, Mike Wallace, Walter Cronkite, Dan Rather and dozens more. Today, it means one less vehicle for solid news reporting and 60 fewer jobs for those in journalism. The New York Press Club joins all Americans and everyone working in journalism in mourning the trend away from carefully edited, trusted news mediums, those for which CBS Radio News was always a vaunted model.
