STATEMENT FROM NYPC PRESIDENT STEVE SCOTT
STATEMENT FROM NEW YORK PRESS CLUB PRESIDENT STEVE SCOTT ON THE SHUTDOWN OF GOTHAMIST AND DNAINFO
This is a gut punch for journalism in New York City.

The journalists at DNAInfo and Gothamist told good stories. They told important stories. They won multiple New York Press Club awards for their work. Sadly, those stories may now go untold. Our city will be poorer for that.

The loss of good journalism is a loss for our democracy.

The New York Press Club sends its best wishes to these fine journalists. We stand ready to help you in any way we can.
STATEMENT FROM NYPC PRESIDENT STEVE SCOTT
A MESSAGE FROM STEVE SCOTT

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has fired a not-so-veiled shot across the bow of the news media. Journalists will not be intimidated by the Attorney General's threats. We will continue to do what we've always done: Report the news, using trusted, verified sources. We will continue to protect those sources. And, we will continue to defend the First Amendment and the right of journalists to do their jobs.

- NY Press Club President Steve Scott

STATEMENT FROM THE NEW YORK PRESS CLUB
SECOND CIRCUIT AMICUS CURIAE BRIEF

New York Press Club members and friends:

We are committed to working for a free and open press. For that reason, the New York Press Club is joining more than 50 other news and journalists' organizations, in filing a Second Circuit amicus curiae brief, in a case that could establish a First Amendment right to film and otherwise record police in public spaces (there is currently no such Second Circuit decision recognizing that right). With the First Amendment being challenged and blurred at every turn, we, the amici, believe it is important to set this precedent in the Second Circuit.

We will keep you posted on progress.
